The Higher National Certificate in Wastes Management is designed to develop the competencies required to perform effectively at junior to middle management level in the wastes management industry.  It will develop specialist skills in the diverse range of technical, operational and managerial requirements of the modern wastes industry in order that managers can perform effectively in the various roles which might be expected of them during their career. 

The course has been designed by the Institution in conjunction with a consortium of colleges and provides an excellent, practically focused, course for wastes managers needing a first qualification in the subject.  It also contributes significantly to the knowledge and understanding requirements of the statutory COTCs.  It is available on a day release basis, usually over a period of two academic years, from a number of colleges, and also by means of a distance learning version where the time taken for completion is more flexible and varies with the time commitment which the student is prepared to make.  As a stand-alone qualification it is recognised as an appropriate qualification for admission to the class of Associate Member of the Institution.
